Herbert Geer rides to raise money for CERA
Media release

Lawyers from Herbert Geer will be among 1650 cyclists taking part in this year’s gruelling 520 kilometre Murray to Moyne challenge in April to raise money for medical research and health care.

The event, which takes place on the 4th and 5th of April, will see teams of cyclists ride from Echuca (on the Murray river) to Port Fairy (on the Moyne river) - virtually from the top to the bottom of Victoria - in less than 24 hours.

Sixteen cyclists will take to their bikes for Herbert Geer, including five partners. The team is raising money for the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), one of the world’s leading eye research institutes. All funds will support research into the causes, treatment and prevention of eye diseases and vision impairment.

Herbert Geer Partner and Murray to Moyne cyclist Michael Truelove says the firm has a long-standing relationship with CERA and is keen to raise as much money as possible to improve the lives of those affected by vision impairment.

“This is the second time we have taken part in the Murray to Moyne challenge - in 2008, the Herbert Geer cyclists finished the event in just 17 hours and 49 minutes and raised more than $3,000 for CERA,” says Michael.

“This year we are confident we can beat our riding time and our fundraising total. In fact, apart from the embarrassing potential of riding past our bus at a transition point, one of the most challenging aspects of the ride will be getting a few hours decent sleep on the floor of a sheep shed at Hamilton Show Grounds at the compulsory rest stop.”

Herbert Geer has an active cycling group, which regularly participates in fundraising rides around the country. In 2008, the team participated in several rides, including Ride for Your Mind from Adelaide to Melbourne for Mind Australia, Around the Bay in a Day, Cyclismo and the Great Ocean and Otway Classic Ride.
