At Herbert Geer, we offer traineeship and graduate programs to students in our Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane offices.

During the 12 month Traineeship/Graduate program, you will rotate through two key practice groups and have direct involvement in selecting your rotation areas.
As a trainee and throughout your career with Herbert Geer you will be exposed to many learning opportunities. You will become an integral part of the practice group and receive high quality “real work” to develop the practical legal skills required. You will be allocated a supervising partner, mentor and buddy who provide regular feedback and on the job coaching to develop your skills and also assist in your career development.
Workplace learning opportunities are also gained by attending client functions, participating in client meetings, attending mediations and court - you won’t be kept away from the action. We need you in the middle of it to accelerate your development. Your level of responsibility and involvement is high and the feedback provided to you throughout these experiences will enable you to grow and learn.
The amount of contact with barristers, clients and witnesses is substantial, simply because you are an integral part of the conduct of matters. We believe the best way for you to develop is by tackling these experiences yourself, after initial guidance and with ongoing training.
The partners at Herbert Geer are accessible and willing to share their knowledge and experiences with more junior practitioners. We only allocate partners to the program who are committed to coaching and developing others and this ensures that trainees have a meaningful experience at Herbert Geer.
Structured learning opportunities include regular CLE sessions on a range of legal issues from specific technical updates and updates in relation to changes in the law. Regular information sessions are also held for our Trainees on topics such as civil procedure, Trade Practices Act, Corporations Act, Advocacy Skills and Marketing Skills.
